With the impending Holiday, it is important to remember safety practices while having fun! With how many fun activities are available- it is up to you to be safe!
Fireworks are one of the most popular ways to celebrate but can often lead to unintended injuries! According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), approximately 11,500 firework-related injuries were treated in emergency departments in 2021. There were at least 9 firework-related deaths in 2021. Here are some tips from the National Safety Council to stay safe while using Fireworks! (nsc.org)
Never allow young children to handle Fireworks.
Older children should only use them under close adult supervision
Never use Fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
Anyone using Fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear.
Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands.
Never light them indoors.
Only use them away from people, houses, and flammable materials
Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
Only light one at a time and stay away after lighting!
Never ignite devices in a container.
Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding.
Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of fire.
Never use illegal fireworks.
